Perhaps this isn’t your idea of a perfect holiday meal, but it is super healthy and filled with holiday spirit!
Winter Holiday Juice Recipe
All these ingredients I bought organic and cheaply! How? By buying vegetables and fruits in season and grown locally to me. This is something I have been trying to do more and more as local, in season, organic produce is healthier and less harmful to the environment due to less transportation and no chemicals used to grow them.
To make this juice I juiced the following ingredients in this order.
1 bunch organic spinach
2 organic limes
1 piece organic ginger
2 1/2 lbs organic carrots
Then I peeled and blended 4 organic naval oranges in a blender. You can filter out the pulp as you wish. I like to leave it all in to provide plenty of fiber. If you have a citrus press, you could use that instead.
A very nutrient-dense food, spinach contains vitamins A, C, E, K, B2 and B6. Plenty of iron makes spinach a great choice for vegetarians and vegans. Spinach also has a range of minerals, including magnesium, selenium, calcium, phosphate, niacin and potassium. Popeye had the right idea!
Limes contain a large amount of vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential to maintain many bodily functions such as immune system health, skin health, eye health and gum health. Limes are also considered a diabetic superfood by the American Diabetes Association due to their high levels of soluble fiber and low glycemic load.
Ginger has long been regarded as having medicinal benefits. It is said to help with stomach issues and pain relief. There is evidence to support that ginger and ginger extracts can help relieve dizziness, nausea, menstrual pains and arthritic pain.
Carrots provide the body with vitamin A and antioxidants. Vitamin A can help with vision (yes, the old tales are somewhat true!). Antioxidants help to stop cell oxidation and death.
Oranges are a great source of vitamin C, vitamin A and B vitamins. Vitamin C is a huge player in strengthening your immune system to fight off disease. B vitamins as a general statement are essential nutrients for energy production and cell health.
