Juice Recipe: Kale Citrus Crush
With this juice you get a potent cocktail of all things awesome! Let’s look at the individual ingredients:
Kale contains very high levels of many nutrients including calcium, beta-carotene, vitamin k and vitamin c. Kale contains several potent cancer fighting substances including sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol. Kale also contains bile acid sequestrants which helps to lower cholesterol and decrease absorbtion of dietary fats.
Lemons are a good source of vitamin c, folate and potassium. Vitamin c is essential for good health and has been linked to decreased risk of lung cancer (still debated). Folate is essential for DNA production and repair. Potassium is required for energy production.
Celery contains a large amount of dietary fiber with very few calories. Celery also contains a mixture of vitamins and minerals while giving a nice refreshing taste.
Apples contain a lower amount of nutrients per gram than many other fruits. They do however contain a good amount of dietary fiber and vitamin c. Apples are more nutritious eaten rather than juiced, but they do add a great taste.
Carrots provide the body with vitamin a and antioxidants. Vitamin a can help with vision (yes the old tales are somewhat true!). Antioxidants help to stop cell oxidation and death.
